Weather People

So, yesterday, I basically drew characters all day...in preparation for another children's book idea. I've had this idea for a while now the manuscript sitting in a folder on my computer just waiting to be married up with some pretty illustration. WELL, it's time the story came to life. First, the character designs which you'll find right in front of your wonderful eyes :)

Lilly finds a Magic Wand!

Today I decided to create an internal illustration for an upcoming book idea about a little girl who finds a magic wand! More to come from this little story, keep an eye out!

A little bit of loveliness

I was feeling a little fed up this evening so decided to draw something to cheer me up.

Evangeline

This is an illustration for my Piano Teacher's new baby Evangeline (well technically not new, she's 2 this year!) But she's still tiny and cute :) Anyway, I was asked a little while ago if I would do an illustration for her that she could keep, and this is what I came up with. I imagined all Evie's little toys coming to life; something jolly and colourful to put on the wall :)

Head in the Clouds

One more illustration to finish the day on 11/1/11...snazzy eh?!
This represents my love of having my head in the clouds in 'Lil land'. I live in a bubble where everything is lovely and happy and there are magical creatures and rainbows. I love being an illustrator. I don't have to always stick to reality (until i have to do a tax return. Ouch. Reality hurts...back to the bubble.)

On the Moon

I'm ploughing out the illustrations like a machine at the moment because I am feeling very very inspired, and I'm taking FULL advantage of it before I have to work on my book commissions again. I receive the feedback for my rough work for the books in about a week, yikes! Then it hardcore busy times to get the final full colour artworks completed!
Anyhoo, this is an illustration based on another cute story idea...This is little Neil and his new Alien friend.

January

Hello again lovely people!
So the theme of this illustration is '2011 New Year'. Over the next few months I have to design an illustration based on a theme for each month i.e. January = New Year/New beginning etc, February = Valentines Day/Leap Year... These illustrations will be featuring on each Pickled ink newsletter which is sent out to publishers/clients each month.
Anyway, back to the current theme of new year...I had no idea what to do. What could I draw in my style that could represent January??....After much thought I decided I'd run with this image and do something a bit crazy (as usual). I thought about all of my favourite things I like to draw and then put them all together to create one lively illustration! Of course adding a little phrase to put the illustration in context... 'Free Your Imagination in 2011'; because that's exactly what i'll be doing, and what you see before you are just some of what will be emerging from my brain this year. Hope you like it :)

Just for a laugh I'm going to include the older version of this image in this post. Can you spot the difference?? Maybe this illustration would be more appropriate in 18,000 years time?.....mmmmm.

Houston We Have an Update!

Happy New Year Bloggers and Blog viewers :)
It's been a while since I realmed into Bloggdum, but I arrive with illustrations at the ready for a bold and exciting new year!
Some of you may know I have two big book commissions in the running. So I'll keep you updated and let you know when the publishing dates are too! It's all very exciting!
I've been listening a lot of new amazing film soundtracks lately too which have had a big impact on my work. Especially the 'Tron Legacy' soundtrack by Daft Punk. Seriously, it makes you feel INVINCIBLE! Today I've been listening to some good old 80's music from the movie 'The Neverending Story'... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L1cD-RnmMds&feature=fvst
I really do think i was meant to be in my twenties in the 1980s...i'm in the wrong era! Gosh, the thought of being 23 this year is slightly depressing. I'm going to have to have a word with Mr. Time and get him to slow things down a bit! I'm not ready to be a proper adult yet. Then again, I'm a children's book illustrator, which gives me the license to be a complete kid for as long as i ruddy well please!
Okay so let's get a new illustration on this screen for you to close this post....I shall be updating a lot more now! Well, I'll try :)
A little hint to a new book I have on the go...

Scooooby doooby dooooo Where ARE you?

My little darling labrador puppy Scooby is growing at an alarming rate! He is the most adorable little thing EVER.
